Unlock the Hidden Value of Your Family Treasures This February

Is there a masterpiece on your wall or a fortune in your jewellery box? This February, Gorringe’s senior specialists are coming to North West London to help you find out.

Many of the most significant discoveries in the art and antiques world don't happen in a gallery; they happen at the kitchen table.

Whether it’s a piece of jewellery inherited years ago, a painting that has hung in the hallway for decades, or a collection of ceramics passed down through generations, many homeowners are sitting on significant assets without realising their current market value.

Senior members of our valuation team will be available for no-obligation valuations of items in the privacy of your home on Tuesday 24 February.

They are able to value everything from Fine Art and Furniture to Jewellery, Silver, Ceramics, and Asian Art.

Expert Insights in the Comfort of Your Home

Rather than requiring you to bring your valuable items to us, we come to you.

We find that this offers greater privacy and security and reduces the risk of damage to items.

Our team includes some of the industry’s most respected specialists:

  • John Holmes (Managing Director and Head of Paintings and 20th Century Design): Specialising in British and European fine art, with over 20 years’ experience, he is the principal contact for clients seeking expertise in paintings, prints, sculpture, and design.

  • Dan Bray (Director of Valuations and Head of Asian Art): Dan leads our valuation team and oversees our most important valuations across all categories. He is also an authority on Chinese porcelain, jades, and Asian works of art.

  • Samuel Hug (Head of Jewellery): Specialist in antique and modern gemstones and period jewellery. He has a particular interest in antique jewels, from medieval posy rings and Georgian rivières through to Art Nouveau and Art Deco, and, needless to say for any jewellery afficionado, loves anything Cartier

Why Seek a Valuation Now?

As with any asset, the value of antiques can fluctuate. An appraisal from five years ago may no longer reflect the true value of your items in today’s market. This may mean you do not have sufficient insurance coverage or, in some cases, that you have too much.

Our standard valuations are for the purposes of selling at auction. If you require a formal valuation for insurance or probate, we would be happy to arrange this additional service.

These consultations are entirely confidential and come with no obligation to sell.

How to Book

Appointments are strictly limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. To ensure you have dedicated time with the relevant specialist, we recommend booking early.

If you require a more formal service, our experts are also available for Insurance and Probate valuations; these are by appointment and carry a professional fee.

Available Dates: Tuesday 24 February

Location: Private Home Visits across North West London, including Hampstead, Highgate, St John’s Wood, Maida Vale, Primrose Hill, and Belsize Park.

About Gorringe’s

Founded in 1929 by Roland Gorringe, Gorringe’s is a fourth-generation family business now led by Roland’s great-grandson, Oliver Searle (as Executive Director), and John Holmes (as Managing Director).

The company’s very first sale - the contents of Lewes House, home of American collector Edward Warren - included Auguste Rodin’s The Kiss, now recognised as one of the finest examples of modern sculpture and today a highlight of The Tate's collection. For almost a century, Gorringe’s has been a trusted valuer and auctioneer of fine art, antiques and jewellery, serving clients across Sussex, Kent and beyond.

Its principal saleroom and gallery is located in the historic county town of Lewes, East Sussex, with an additional office in Tunbridge Wells serving customers across Kent. A full-service auction house, Gorringe’s holds around 60 auctions each year, from its flagship monthly Fine Sales to its ever-popular weekly House & Gardens auctions.
