A Growing Interest in Vintage & Collectable Pens

In an age where emails, texts and voice notes dominate our daily communication, the simple act of writing by hand has become something of a quiet luxury. For collectors and enthusiasts alike, the connection between ink and paper represents not just nostalgia, but craftsmanship, history and a deeper appreciation for the tools that once shaped our thoughts and ideas.

Interestingly, during the pandemic, many people turned to handwritten letters as a way to feel closer and more connected. A survey by Plan International UK found that 45% of Britons said receiving letters helped them get through lockdown. For auction houses like Gorringe’s, this resurgence in appreciation for handwritten items is no surprise as they served as lifelines during a period of isolation.

This growing interest was clear at Gorringe’s recent Vintage & Collectable Pens Auction. The sale drew attention from across the UK and beyond, with strong bidding across a range of lots, including two limited edition Mont Blanc fountain pens, which sold for £8,500 and £8,000.
