Overview

Gorringe’s is an independent, family-owned auction house rooted in Lewes, with a valuation office in Tunbridge Wells and nearly 100 years of heritage.

We have ambitious plans to grow and want to further build our reputation as a premium auction house with national and international reach. As part of this, we are launching a new brand identity and website in early 2027.

We are looking for a creative, proactive Marketing Manager with a proven track record in social media, email marketing experience, strong copywriting skills, a good eye and great attention to detail.

Your Role

Working with the Head of Marketing, you will turn our plans into high-quality content and campaigns. Social media is a key part of the job: you will run our channels and grow our audience. You will also write and send two to three emails a week, run our programme of valuation events and play a key part in launching our new brand identity and website. Attracting new sellers is a priority for the business, and your email marketing and valuation events will be central to this.

Key Responsibilities

  • Social Media Leadership: Own Gorringe’s organic social channels and grow audience and engagement. Create, film and edit short-form video, reply to comments and messages, and work with influencers where they suit the brand.
  • Email Marketing & Customer Data: Write, build and schedule two to three emails a week using our templates, with engaging copy and creative use of sale results. Help build mailing lists based on customers’ stated interests and browsing and bidding history, and support our plans to introduce a CRM system.
  • Copywriting & Brand Voice: Write clear, accurate copy for social media and the website, taking care with client confidentiality. Keep our brand consistent across all digital channels.
  • Photography & Video: Work closely with our in-house photography and videography team, who will help create content. Find compelling stories with our specialists and brief the team, alongside the fast-turnaround content you create yourself.
  • Website: Help launch the new website, then keep it accurate and up to date, publishing content that helps people find us online.
  • Campaigns, Events & Partnerships: Own the valuation event calendar (booking and promoting these events) and work with colleagues to find ways to promote auctions and other events. Support partnerships alongside the Head of PR.
  • Performance & Reporting: Track and report on results using tools such as Google Analytics (GA4), linking activity to consignments, bidder registrations and event attendance, and suggest improvements.

Requirements

  • Experience: At least three years in a hands-on marketing or content creation role.
  • Social Media Track Record: Proven success growing social media accounts, ideally Instagram-led, with measurable results you can share. Confident creating and editing short-form video. Familiar with social media trends.
  • Email Marketing: Some hands-on experience writing and building email campaigns using platforms such as Mailchimp. Experience of customer segmentation or working with a CRM system would be useful.
  • Writing & Creative Judgement: Excellent written English and a strong eye for high-quality content.
  • Digital Skills: Familiarity with Google Analytics (GA4), content management systems and social scheduling tools, plus an interest in AI marketing tools.
  • Initiative: A self-starter who has built or grown something, such as a brand, project or social media account of your own.
  • Organisation: Able to juggle deadlines and work independently, knowing what matters most to the business.
  • Working Style: Collaborative, dependable and adaptable. An interest in art, antiques, interiors or design is valuable but not essential. Auction terminology is very specific: you don’t need to know it to start, but you will need to pick it up quickly on the job.
  • Right to Work: You must have an existing right to work in the UK.

How to apply

Please email your CV, cover letter, salary expectations and links to examples of your work to clientservices@gorringes.co.uk. Examples should include at least two social media accounts or campaigns you have been responsible for, with a sentence on your role and the results achieved. In your cover letter, please also suggest up to three things you would change about Gorringe’s current Instagram, and why.

We can only consider applications sent this way and cannot accept applications via LinkedIn.

Closing date: Tuesday 6 October 2026. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to interview, which will include a short practical task.

Gorringe’s is an equal opportunities employer and welcomes applications from all backgrounds.
