As part of its continued investment in the business, Gorringe’s is moving its Kent base to new, central premises in Tunbridge Wells with free parking at the entrance.
Gorringe’s has worked with collectors across Sussex and Kent since Roland Gorringe founded the firm in Lewes in 1929. Its first sale – the contents of Lewes House, home of American collector Edward Warren – included Auguste Rodin’s The Kiss, now in the Tate’s permanent collection.
Its links with Kent run deep: for nearly 30 years, Gorringe’s Tunbridge Wells office has served clients across the county. The new premises, centrally located and easy to reach, have been designed around the client, with a comfortable waiting room, a private room for confidential valuations and free parking directly outside.
The office will be led by Tom Blest, Head of Valuations, Kent, an auctioneer and general valuer who joined in April 2025. Recent Kent consignments include Robert Healy’s pastel portrait of Anne, 1st Countess Clancarty, which sold for £16,000, and an Art Deco diamond and onyx ring set with a Peruzzi-cut diamond of around 1.50 carats, which achieved £5,000.
The move is part of a wider investment which has seen the valuations team grow with new experts in paintings, jewellery, books & manuscripts and fine wine & spirits, together with a new Head of Valuations for London.
“We’re investing in people, expertise and places, so that Gorringe’s can stand alongside the country’s finest auction houses,” says Executive Director Oliver Searle, the founder’s great-grandson. “Our new Tunbridge Wells office is the next step.”
Gorringe’s holds more than 60 sales a year. Its fine and specialist sales cover fine art, furniture, jewellery, silver, watches, ceramics, Asian art, fine wine & spirits and books & manuscripts. The weekly House & Garden sale allows it to offer clients a full-service approach, from a single piece to the contents of an entire house.
For a valuation, visit Gorringe’s in Tunbridge Wells on Tuesdays from 1pm to 5pm and Thursdays from 9am to 5pm, or at other times by appointment. Home visits are available across Kent, Sussex and surrounding areas.
