Gothic Shrine from the Colchester Pageant of 1909 to go under the hammer

Colchester's Celebrated Pageant of 1909 recalled at Gorringes with the sale of a model of a Gothic Shrine made for the occasion.
An Edwardian giltwood gothic shrine made for the Colchester Pageant of 1909 is to be sold at Gorringes on Wednesday 24th March, with an estimate of £700-1,000.
The model was designed by local inhabitant Mr. Ernest Mason. Originally from Ipswich, Mr. Mason moved with his wife and children to Colchester at the end of the 19th century and established a business selling office supplies and furniture. He was involved, along with 300 others from the town, in the 1909 Colchester Pageant and helped to make some of the props (including this shrine).
The shrine featured in a scene set in the 13th century and was a shrine to
St. Helena, the patron saint of Colchester. The model was not based on any particular chuch, but, rather, was made to look gothic to suit the time in which the scene was set.
Auction: Wednesday 24th March
Viewing: 19th, 20th & 22nd March
